Biography
1875-1955 – James Henry Osborne Amess (JHO Amess) attended LCC Central School of Arts and Crafts, and Goldsmiths Institute, both in London, England. Amess and his family moved to Canada in 1910 and settled on the west coast one year later.
He won a gold medal for his work at the Provincial Exhibition in 1919. In 1939 his work was included in the National Exhibition held in Toronto, and in 1940 his work was part of the Traveling Loan Collection. He and Fred Amess held a duo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1941, and he later had a solo exhibition there in 1945. He exhibited work in numerous BC Artists exhibitions and with numerous annual exhibitions held by the BC Society of Fine Arts. Amess died at the age of 79.
