Artist Spotlight – Corre Alice

“I paint freely, but with formal restraints..."

Corre Alice’s oil paintings often explore the relationship between the emotional and the intellectual. She is inspired by the boldness of abstract expressionism, as well as the surrealist movement and its use of the creative unconscious as a navigational tool.

Born in the 60s on the coast of BC, Alice has lived most of her live on islands and never had a “clean clothes job.” She’s built her own strawbale home on South Pender Island and grown numerous gardens. She studied at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Victoria College of Art and Vancouver Island School of Art and her work has been exhibited at galleries in Victoria and others across Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Kelowna and Edmonton.

“I paint freely, but with formal restraints, respecting the integrity of the structure in the attempt to create tension…impulsively painting with regard to the logical.” Quote from Corre Alice, Artist Biography, Van Dop Gallery Website, https://vandopgallery.com/corre-alice/

The Canadian Art Preservation Foundation posts short biographies and information on artists and artwork from its collection in a not-so-subtle attempt to capture your attention and interest in our mission, but we also just want to keep this artwork in view. We are excited about the art we collect and want to share it with you. CAPF is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the artwork of Canada’s superstar artists for future generations to examine, study and exhibit – the ones you know and the ones you might not know so well. We accept artwork, journals, notes, letters, exhibition catalogues and anything else that might comprise a visual and/or intellectual “portrait” (ahem, please pardon the pun) of a particular artist.
